Car Rental Levy Postponed to October 1
(Bridgetown, July 1, 2025) The Government of Barbados advises the public and all stakeholders that the implementation of the Car Rental Levy, originally scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2025, has been postponed to October 1, 2025.
The Car Rental Levy was announced as part of the 2025 Budgetary Proposals by the Honourable Ryan Straughn, Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs. The introduction of this measure replaces the requirement for a Visitor’s Permit with a daily charge on all vehicle rentals, for both visitors and residents.
The three-month deferral aims to give all stakeholders in the industry time to make the necessary adjustments to systems and processes, to ensure readiness to comply with the new policy. Further guidance and technical support will be provided to stakeholders ahead of the new effective date.
